Junior Hydrogeologist/Field Tech Required

GW Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Field Technician or Junior Hydrogeologist to join our team in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This is a unique opportunity to work with a team of over ten hydrogeologists and geoscientists on groundwater-related resource projects across BC, Alberta and Yukon. 

This position is based out of GW Solutions’ Nanaimo office.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have a passion for work in the field and in nature. A college or university degree in hydrogeology or a relevant science/engineering discipline is required. 

We are seeking specific qualifications as follows:

  1. Graduate or undergraduate degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, engineering geology, environmental engineering, or related discipline such as hydrology, geography,

  2. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,

  3. Strong work ethic with well-developed organizational and time management skills,

  4. Experience with well drilling techniques, installation of monitoring and production wells and soil and groundwater sampling procedures,

  5. Experience using water level meters, data loggers, and multi-parameter water quality meters to gather hydrogeological and environmental data,

  6. Experience designing and performing slug tests, packer tests, and aquifer pumping tests,

  7. Practical experience or course work in data manipulation using data management tools such as MS Excel, MS Access, and QGIS,

  8. Required to have or be able to obtain standard safety tickets (e.g., First Aid, Ground Disturbance, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Confined Spaces Entry, etc.). Additional safety certification may be required, depending on the nature of the project that can be completed in advance of the work,

  9. Candidates must be comfortable travelling to and working in field settings, including to remote locations and in winter weather. Ability to work overtime or for longer days will be required occasionally.

  10. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions, and must possess a Valid BC Driver’s License,

  11. Preference will be given to candidates who are registered or eligible to register as a professional engineer or geoscientist in British-Columbia or Alberta,

  12. Two to five years of relevant experience in consulting and/or industry and experience working with First Nations is an asset. 

 

OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to execute groundwater resource projects related to water supply development, well field and aquifer monitoring/management, and environmental impact assessments. The position will include the following day-to-day activities:

  • Interacting with and reporting to clients and internal GW Solutions project managers

  • Installing, maintaining, repairing and collecting data from environmental monitoring stations (monitoring wells, surface water and climate monitoring stations) 

  • Supervising and collecting field data during well drilling and testing

  • Collecting in-situ water quality measurements and water samples

  • Compiling field notes and preparing tables, graphs, and figures for presentation to clients

  • Writing proposal and reports.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $30-$38 per hour depending on experience and qualifications

 

Benefits: Health and Dental after 3 months probationary period

 

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

  • Overtime
